Welcome to the Town of Moriah
The Town of Moriah covers 73 square miles in the region of New York's majestic Adirondack Mountains, bordering Lake Champlain. It consists of four hamlets: Moriah, Moriah Center, Mineville, Witherbee, and the Village of Port Henry.
Moriah has a very rich and versatile heritage. After the Treaty of 1763, soldiers were given land by King George for their service in the French and Indian War. Iron ore was discovered, lumber and grist mills sprang up, farms started, furnaces were built, and the shipping of ore began -- first by water and then by railroad.
Settled in 1785 by William McKenzie, the current population numbers approximately 5000.
Set on a bluff above the lake, the compact village of Port Henry still boasts a fine array of turn-of-the-century buildings, parks and recreational areas.
This site is maintained by the Moriah Chamber of Commerce.
